**2026 NFL Draft: Dolphins’ “Biggest Gamble” Leads to “D” Grade, Bills Earn “A” After Trading Out of First Round**

Immediate evaluations of the NFL Draft are preliminary, with true assessments requiring at least three years. However, initial analysis by NFL Draft Analyst Rob Rang highlights the diverse strategies teams employed in the 2026 class, ranging from prioritizing best available talent and addressing team needs to gambling on character concerns and long-term potential.

### AFC East

**Buffalo Bills**
The Buffalo Bills, under new head coach Joe Brady, executed a strategy of trading down twice, moving out of the first round and acquiring additional selections. Despite this, the team secured quality talent, including edge rusher T.J. Parker, whom analyst Rob Rang projected as a Day 1 pick due to his well-rounded play and untapped potential. Rang noted that General Manager Brandon Beane identified strong value and stylistic fits across the class. Key additions included cornerback Davison Igbinosun and offensive tackle Jude Bowry, described as “second-tier” prospects with high upside. Wide receiver Skyler Bell and safeties Jalon Kilgore and Zane Durant were identified for their athleticism, suggesting future NFL starter potential. Linebacker Kaleb Elarms-Orr (TCU) was highlighted as a potential immediate contributor. The Bills received an ‘A’ grade.

**Miami Dolphins**
The Miami Dolphins, utilizing an NFL-high 13 draft picks, were positioned for a significant draft impact, though analyst Rob Rang expressed skepticism regarding the overall success of their class. Rang identified several prospects with quality NFL potential, including cornerback Chris Johnson, wide receiver Chris Bell, and linebacker Kyle Louis, alongside Jacob Rodriguez and Kevin Coleman. However, the Dolphins’ initial selection of offensive tackle Kadyn Proctor (Alabama) at 12th overall was characterized as one of the draft’s “biggest gambles.” Rang questioned whether the Dolphins were in a position to take such a risk. Additionally, wide receiver Caleb Douglas (Texas Tech) was not seen by Rang as a future No. 1 wideout or a significant upgrade over later-round wide receiver selections. While the ongoing roster rebuild suggests most draftees will make the team, Rang voiced doubts about Miami’s ability to significantly increase their win total next season. The Dolphins received a ‘D’ grade.

**New England Patriots**
Following a Super Bowl appearance, the New England Patriots adopted a draft strategy focused on acquiring pro-ready contributors with two of their top-100 selections, complementing this with later-round picks targeting athletic upside. Analyst Rob Rang identified second-round edge Gabe Jacas and third-round tight end Eli Raridon as immediate impact players. First-round selection Caleb Lomu (offensive tackle) possesses the long-term traits for a high-end starting left tackle, but Rang expressed concerns about his current strength for an immediate starting role. The analyst noted it would be “interesting to see” if the Patriots opt to start him early.
